What is more motivating for top performance in sports than that the effort serves a good cause?
In any case, the pupils of the Phorms School in Steinbach were very motivated when they took part in the sponsored run for Ukraine on 7 July, despite the sweltering heat.
Before the run, the pupils looked for as many sponsors as possible among their family, acquaintances and personal environment who would donate a fixed amount of money for each lap they completed during the run. The name of the sponsor and the amount per lap are entered on the run sheet.
On the 400m lap on the sports field of the Altkönighalle, the young sportswomen "scrubbed" one lap after the other. There were 45 minutes per class. Very fit pupils managed more than 20 laps. All in all, the hard-working fundraisers raised more than 10,500 euros.
The proceeds of the sponsored run will go to Aktion Hessen hilft e. V. (Hesse Helps Campaign). Founded in 1991 as an initiative of schoolchildren and young people in Hesse, the non-profit organisation has developed into a joint campaign of over 300 Hessian schools and has since carried out aid projects in crisis, war and disaster areas in around 30 countries worldwide.
Numerous Hessian politicians, up to and including the Prime Minister, have assumed patronage over the past 30 years, and many members of the association have received the Federal Cross of Merit, the Letter of Honour of the State of Hesse or other awards.
Since the 1990s, Aktion Hessen hilft has repeatedly provided relief supplies for Ukraine and helped together with established network partners. This networking now enables it to provide fast and targeted help! Based on current calls for help from Ukraine, several aid shipments to Ukraine have already started, with more to follow in the coming weeks.
Numerous manufacturers are supporting the aid shipments in a targeted and needs-based manner with donations in kind on pallets, and numerous schools are collecting donations in kind based on a predefined list of needs. In order to be able to finance the transport of the in-kind donations and the purchase of missing relief supplies, Aktion Hessen hilft also relies on financial support.
