This week the science department made ice cream using dry ice with year groups 9, 10 and 11. Students observed how solid carbon dioxide rapidly sublimates, creating the cold conditions needed to freeze the mixture into ice cream within minutes.

The lesson gave students a hands-on look at changes of state, conduction, insulation and energy transfer. It is not often you’ll see students this excited to learn about science, especially with the current weather conditions.
