As a “STEM-friendly school,” we place great emphasis on fostering our students’ interest and skills in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (STEM). Through hands-on and innovative teaching methods, we offer them not only a solid theoretical education but also numerous opportunities to directly apply their knowledge through experiments, projects, and interactive learning environments.

Phorms Science Center

    3 times a week for younger students
    Twice a week for older students

The Phorms Science Center is an extracurricular program designed to foster a love of discovery, a spirit of inquiry, and a general interest in STEM.

 

Students enjoy greater freedom in planning and conducting experiments, learn more about careers in STEM, participate in competitions, and are prepared for internships. They have the opportunity to further develop their practical skills and strengthen their problem-solving abilities.

 

The program is free for all Phorms students, while external children and teenagers pay a fee of 120€ per semester, which covers all materials and fees.

Field Trip Program

Field trips are a central component of high school education, as they link theoretical knowledge with practical experience and bring learning to life. By visiting learning sites outside of school, students develop a deeper understanding of scientific and social contexts. Field trips not only foster subject-specific skills but also encourage curiosity, independence, and help students explore potential academic and career paths.

Collaboration with Colleges and Universities

Phorms Frankfurt is a partner school of Goethe University Frankfurt. We have particularly close ties with the university’s science departments. Students in the E-Phase participate in “Science Day,” 10th graders take part in a workshop on radioactivity, and Q4 students attend a workshop on nuclear physics. All of this is part of our collaboration with Goethe University.

 

The career guidance coordinator also maintains regular contact with the representatives responsible for school relations in the individual departments and institutes (including Analytik Jena). This ensures that our students are prepared for current, relevant developments in academic education.

"Jugend forscht" 

Contests and Projects

Since 2019, our school has regularly participated in the renowned German STEM competition “Jugend forscht.”

 

“Jugend forscht” is Germany’s best-known competition for young talent. Its goal is to inspire children and teenagers to take an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), as well as to identify and nurture young talent. Participants work on projects addressing questions of their own choosing within the STEM field. They then write a report and present their findings to the competition jury.

 

Nationwide, more than 120 competitions are held per round at the regional, state, and national levels. The winners of the regional competitions advance to the state competition. The state winners of “Jugend forscht” then go on to compete in the national finals.

We are very proud that our students made a strong impression in the biology and technology categories at the “Jugend forscht” Rhine-Main East regional competition!

Investigation of Pollutant Levels

 

Chemical substances such as fertilizers and pesticides are having an alarming impact on wildlife. Three high school students and their innovative school project have set out to develop scientific precipitation tests to detect pollutants and heavy metals in soil and natural water sources. In-House Interferometer for High-Precision Measurements

 

Using a computational simulation we developed, we determined how accurate an interferometer needs to be to detect viral aerosols (e.g., COVID-19 aerosols, etc.) in a room.

Bisphenol A – Migration from Food Packaging

 

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic compound used to manufacture various types of plastic. This molecule has frequently been detected in human urine samples. The Phorms team was among the award winners for their project, which used a testing method to detect the migration of BPA from food packaging. Curious to learn more? Find out more here

Thanks to the "DigitalPakt Schule", we have comprehensively modernized our IT infrastructure. High-speed Wi-Fi ensures a stable internet connection in all classrooms. Every classroom is equipped with tablets and interactive whiteboards, which make learning more varied and personalized. Digital learning platforms allow our students to access course materials even at home. In this way, we combine traditional education with modern technologies to create a contemporary learning experience.
